Perhaps that's why it sounds like there's reverb missing in They're Hanging Me Tonight? Particularly the vocal only sections at the end of Cool Water where you can clearly hear decays and the total lack of any kind of tape hiss. Everything sounds a bit empty to my ears, vocal and instrumental decays don't sound right.which leads me to wonder, has this had 1980s digital noise reduction applied, or has there been some other processing? I don't know, take a listen for yourself. Low level detail is not well defined, the rhythm section doesnt There's some phaseyness going on and some shifting of the stereo image, which I guess could be written off to transferring a full track tape on a half track head - but it's more than that. I'm sure I could find more differences if I kept at it. Aside from El Paso being the proper long version, there's a lot of reverb on the vocal of Big Iron that isn't there in stereo, the guitar leads in The Litle Green Valley are much further forward in the mix, and so on.

There's some good news and some bad news. Well my old Australian no frills CD arrived today, a 1990s repressing of it - Columbia/CBS 465041 2.
